When the pandemic restrictions were announced, Jagga Sweets - a family-owned company founded in 1970 in Phagwara located in the Kapurthala district of Punjab, India - closed both the restaurant and sweet shop and started serving its community in a different way.
On March 22, Jagga Sweets decided to get busy helping individuals and families who can't afford food and started a Free Food service to help those in need. Served from 12 Noon until 2:00PM, it was packed for people to take home. In fact, people had the option of receiving more than one package for multiple days, or to come everyday. Only one person was allowed inside the restaurant to pickup food and people were encouraged to send a text message ahead of time so their food would be ready. The Free Food service continued until April 15 when the restaurant and sweet shopped closed ... but that was short lived. On May 1, take-out service was implemented along with delivery using three online food delivery service companies. On June 10, dine-in service resumed from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM under conditions prescribed by health authorities.
